As we move into 2018 have you decided that this is the year you get serious about your divorce practice? GREAT IDEA! Let me give you some tips to make sure it actually happens.
First – Review last year. You can’t get clear on where you’re going until you are clear on where you’ve been and where you are now. What worked last year? What didn’t? Who are the people that were key to your success and who are those that maybe held you back?
Second – Spend some time thinking about what really matters to you. How can you create a business that will support that vision? Do you want to maximize your income or make it possible to travel for 3 months a year? Those two businesses would look pretty different.
“Defining your goals gives your mind something to focus on and notice opportunity where you didn’t before.”
Third – Set one big, important goal. Defining your goals gives your mind something to focus on and notice opportunity where you didn’t before. When you instruct your brain to look for things you want, you’ll begin to see opportunities where you didn’t before.
Key Mistakes of Goal-setting:
Most people have never been taught the process of successful goal-setting and how to get an “edge”. One of the biggest mistakes is setting too many goals and losing focus. We’re already busy. If you pile on too much, it will just get lost. You’ve got clients, day-to-day business, marketing, etc. There’s only so much extra time to work with. You can’t ignore that.
“Great ideas are a dime a dozen. It’s ACTION that results in greatness.”
Another big mistake is not being specific. Goals that are clear as mud. Your goals need to be SMART; Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time Limited.
The next mistake is not carving out time for implementation. The vast majority of people set goals but then never do anything to try to make them reality. They are All Talk, no action. Great ideas are a dime a dozen. It’s ACTION that results in greatness. Block out three 90-minute “jam sessions” each week to work ON your business instead of IN your business. Use those sessions to do the never-critical tasks that will move your business forward.
Common sense is NOT common practice. If you don’t do the work, you won’t get the results. You have to do the work.
